a little about us

the book'd story

A family business built on one bold leap and one tiny cottage
We’re not a corporation. We’re not backed by investors. We’re a family-run business that started with a fixer-upper, a guest cottage, and a hunch that things could be done differently.
Back in late 2019, just before the world turned upside down, we (Andrew and Michael) bought our very first home in Ocala, Florida. A historic 1908 bungalow with a colorful past, a whole lot of charm, and a forgotten little guest cottage out back. We called it The Flungalow, a mash-up of “Florida” and “bungalow,” and without knowing it, we had just taken the first step toward what would eventually become Book’d.
At the time, we weren’t looking to build a business. We just saw potential where others saw problems. That tiny guest house? We listed it on Airbnb hoping to cover the electric bill. Instead, it booked up almost immediately and gave us our first real taste of what thoughtful hosting could look like.
We didn’t get everything right (ask us about our very first four-star review over a shower drain). But these experiences taught us what we still believe today: guests don’t just want a place to stay. They want a stay that feels personal, cared for, and reliable.

Book’d is something my husband Michael and I built from the ground up, with support from our closest friends and family. Michael’s focus is operations and logistics. He’s the one keeping everything on track, making sure guests are taken care of and nothing slips through the cracks. I focus on design and outreach, curating spaces that feel warm and welcoming, and connecting with our clients and communities in a real way. Together, we manage vacation rentals across the Book'd portfolio with the same attention and care we gave that very first property. We’ve grown, but we’ve kept things intentionally personal.
And while it started with just the two of us, the Book’d team is always growing. We’re lucky to work with an incredible group of real estate professionals, cleaners, maintenance pros, and trusted local vendors who care just as much as we do.
The first decision we made when starting our very first Airbnb was to welcome pets. Not just allow them, but truly welcome them. Back then, it was rare to find a pet-friendly stay with no extra fees or side-eye. But we saw the need for more inclusive, animal-loving spaces that made it easy for guests to bring their four-legged family members along on the journey.
So we became one of the very first pet-friendly, pet-fee-free Airbnbs in our area. That choice brought in the kind of guests we love most. Thoughtful travelers. Responsible pet parents. People who were grateful to have their whole family together on the road. That spirit is still with us today. We believe hosting should feel warm, not transactional. Welcoming pets is just one more way we build trust and connection with our guests. We've even made a few furry friends along the way.

It takes a village to grow something meaningful, and we’ve been lucky to work in communities that welcomed us with open arms. Book’d was built with the support of local leaders, nonprofit partners, and neighbors who believed in what we were creating. That community-first mindset has become the backbone of our business.
Whether we’re coordinating with city officials, supporting a small business, or just helping guests discover the neighborhood coffee shop, we stay focused on what’s local and important.
At our core, we’re travelers and lifelong adventure seekers who have been lucky enough to explore cities, small towns, and hidden gems around the world. From boutique hotels in South East Asia to remote mountain getaways in Appalachia, we’ve seen hospitality at its best — and taken notes along the way.
We’ve learned that small details matter. That a great stay comes down to care, consistency, and comfort. An Airbnb might never be the Four Seasons, but we sure do try our best!
Our passion for travel is what fuels our passion for hosting. We know what it feels like to walk into a space and immediately relax. That’s the feeling we work to create for every guest, at every property.

'The Flungalow' was just the beginning. We’ve now helped hosts across the East Coast build successful short-term rentals that guests rave about. But the heart of our work hasn’t changed. It’s still about trust, hospitality, and the belief that little things like a candle lit before check-in or a fixed faucet before it becomes a problem, make the biggest differences.
We started small, we stay personal, and we care deeply about every home we manage. From one Airbnb to many, we’ve never lost sight of what matters most: people, hospitality, and homes that are truly cared for.
Cheers!
